Movement for Actors
This workshop focuses on the basics
of movement and body awareness and how to incorporate them into the actor’s
process.
The day begins with an introduction to the basic principles of alignment,
co-ordination, the use of space and improvisation. Using these principles,
participants improvise movement for characters from contemporary drama, romantic
comedy, and period settings.
Anne also introduces a few simple dance steps.
This is a great way for actors to brush up on their present skills and learn new
ways to use movement and body language to enhance their craft.
Okay, so you can dance, sing and act - but how do you get the
job?
Auditioning can be a frightening experience unless you know what to expect. In
this workshop, Anne helps performers present
their personal best.
Some of the topics covered include:
s
What do you do when you're told to prepare an
up-tempo and a ballad, plus a monologue, and be prepared to dance?
s
Would you prepare the same songs to audition for HAIRSPRAY as you would for GUYS
AND DOLLS?
s What
do you wear?
Anne helps performers choose and
prepare a monologue and appropriate songs; choose the right wardrobe; improve
confidence in
dance auditions; and polish their presentation to the audition
panel. As an added bonus, participants learn how to build their
resumes
and choose the proper photograph.
Anne consults with the school dance or
theatre department to bring a fresh look to staging a Broadway-style number.
Students learn
the rudiments of rehearsal etiquette and what responsibilities
they must assume in the rehearsal hall. They discover how to
perform a song with staging and choreography.
This course covers the basics of directing
with an overview of how to choose suitable repertoire, casting, staging and
choreography,
design ....... and tips for maintaining your sanity.
Anne has conducted seminars on the audition
process for ON THE MOVE conference in Toronto. These lively and informative
sessions
are beneficial both for performers and their teachers.
